Biscodyl Meda is a laxative that acts directly on the colon. The softening effect is associated with an increase in the amount of unabsorbed water and electrolytes in the colon. Emptying the gastrointestinal tract is so effective that in some cases the drug can replace an enema. Bisacodyl is minimally absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. When taken orally, bowel movement usually occurs after about 6 hours, and at bedtime after 8-12 hours.
