INDICATIONS
OCUTEIN RIBO-HYAL is an artificial, hyposmolar tear gel for dry eye syndrome, containing hyaluronic acid conjugated with riboflavin.
Dryness of the ocular surface is an inflammatory condition caused by an alteration in the constituents of the tear film. Tears become insufficient in quantity and quality (water, mucous substances and lipids). The Ocutein Ribo-Hyal solution lubricates the cornea and conjunctiva as well as performing a nourishing, protective and antioxidant action against external environmental attacks: physical (thermal, traumatic), luminous (smartphone, TV, PC, sunlight) and chemical (liquid and gaseous pollutants) sources. OCUTEIN RIBO-HYAL ophthalmic solution is therefore indicated for all patients needing lubrication and a reduction of oxidative stress of the ocular surface. The product can be used while wearing contact lenses. Moreover, the characteristic hypoosmolarity of the solution allows rebalancing of the hyperosmolarity of tears present in dry eye syndrome. Vitamin E TPGS is capable of creating amphiphilic micellar structures. This allows the ophthalmic solution to promote the natural restoration of the altered lipid layer in dry eye syndrome due to Meibomian gland dysfunction.
In addition, the ability of Vitamin E TPGS to form micellar structures, promotes the anchorage of hyaluronic acid to the ocular surface, contributing to the natural restoration of the mucous layer of the tear film.
The cellular membranes of the ocular surface are rich in microvilli, extroversions of the cellular membranes, the function of which is to mechanically capture hyaluronic acid to other glycoproteins of the extracellular matrix; this allows the mechanical intercellular adhesion of conjugated hyaluronic acid. This way it can carry out its antioxidant, protective, nourishing and regenerating action over the entire ocular surface.
The RIBOHYAL molecule, thanks to its ability to bind to the microvilli of the epithelial cells of the ocular surface, allows the conjugated hyaluronic acid to mechanically anchor itself to the cells, favouring the restoration of the mucous layer of the tear film, trophism and regeneration of the epithelial layer in case of attack from pathogenic causes.
The gel is applied like normal eye drops, it spreads in a few seconds creating a stable protective layer on the tear film, contrasting the premature evaporation of the tear itself.
