Clotrimazole is an antifungal agent from the group of imidazoles for topical use. The drug has a wide spectrum of action and acts against almost all pathogenic fungi that cause skin infections in humans. The mechanism of action of clotrimazole is based on inhibition of the synthesis of ergosterol, which is necessary for the formation of cell membranes of fungi, which leads to changes in the permeability of cell membranes and cell lysis, as well as inhibition of the synthesis of nucleic acids and polysaccharides. It is used in the treatment of the scalp, body, groin, legs, feet and hands, fungal infections of the beard, pityriasis and erythrasma, skin candidiasis, paronychia.
