Kreon is used in children and adults with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. This is when the pancreas cannot produce the quantity of the enzymes required for digestion.
Kreon improves digestion and mitigates other symptoms associated with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.
Kreon should be taken during a meal or snacking with a sufficient quantity of liquid. If necessary, you may open the capsule, mix the granules into a sour fruit purée or yoghurt, and eat the mix immediately.
Kreon may be taken during pregnancy or breast-feeding. If necessary to take Kreon during pregnancy or breast-feeding, the dosage should be sufficient to assure an adequate intake of nutrients. Caution should be taken when using in pregnant women.

Kreon minimicrospheres (small granules) contain a composition of enzymes called pancreatin. It is necessary for the process of digestion. The enzymes help break down food into nutrients that are easily absorbed in the intestines.
When the Kreon capsule gets to the stomach, its coating dissolves to release the minimicrospheres which contain the pancreatic enzymes. Since pancreatic enzymes are sensitive to gastric acid, the minimicrospheres are coated with a special protective layer, so that they do not start the process of dissolving in the stomach. The Kreon minimicrospheres mix with food completely in the stomach and pass into the small intestine.
